Leeds United secured a much-needed victory at the weekend in the form of a 1-0 win over Brentford at Elland Road.
The result marked the club’s first triumph since Paul Heckingbottom replaced Thomas Christiansen as head coach earlier this month.
Prior to Saturday’s match, Leeds had not won in the Championship since Boxing Day when they overcame Burton Albion 2-1 away.
In fact, the club recorded five defeats and four draws in the second tier following their December victory.
As a result of their winless run, Leeds dropped further down the table, weakening their chances of securing promotion to the Premier League.
After Saturday’s triumph, the club now reside five points adrift of the playoff spots.
As well as celebrating the result at the weekend, fans were left baffled by the post-match remarks made by Brentford boss Dean Smith.
While addressing the media, the 46-year-old took aim at the refereeing decisions of the game, suggesting that Liam Cooper was offside when he scored the one and only goal.
In addition, Smith also blamed the grass on the pitch, claiming that Leeds made sure that the blades were longer in order to slow the match down.
Dean Smith complaining about the length of the grass (too long) and saying Cooper's goal was offside, while admitting that Brentford were poor in the second half. #lufc

It is safe to say that Leeds fans were rather amused by the opposing manager’s excuses.
Poor excuse is that

What on Earth? Both teams playing on the same pitch and referee halted play when we were through on goal twice.

It's been bloody freezing these last few weeks. Grass doesn't grow in these temperatures. I guess it's been too long for months, that's why we haven't won since Boxing Day.
